TREAT FOR YOUR GRANDCHILD’S ENTOURAGE

.

I can hear the Christmas song playing, I can see the Christmas trees all over the place, I see parols and Christmas lights blinking, I can feel the Christmas in the air! There are lots of people on the street. Very busy buying groceries for Christmas Eve… Very occupied on choosing which gifts are they going to buy for their grandchildren. Since Christmas is approaching, I know lots of people are having hard time thinking on what to give not only to their grandchildren but also to their grandchildren’s “entourage”.

During Christmas, it is common that your grandchildren will visit you to get their “aguinaldo”. And you will not be surprised to see other kids that your grandchild brought – their friends, cousins, etc. – and will also ask for their gifts. And since Christmas is the season for giving, you don’t want to disappoint them. Before you panic, let me give you some ideas, on what to give your grandchildren’s entourage:

1. Baked cookies – if you can bake, then why don’t you use your talent so you could save money during Christmas? Just put it in a cute packaging and kids will surely love it!

2. Keychains or cellphone chains – This is very cheap yet everyone will love! Just make sure you choose those cute and pretty designs for kids. This will cost you around PHP 5-10.00 only.

3. New bill – Kids don’t look after the amount, just give them that new and “crispy” money bill. You can give them at least 20 peso bill and they will appreciate it!

4. Cute Earrings – For entourage girls, you can give them cute earrings. They can be glamorous for only PHP 10.00 just make sure it isn’t look cheap!

Simple things count! You don’t have to spend much for them to appreciate your gift. Be sincere in giving it and just be creative! Good luck!!

BEAUTY 101

.

I think almost everyone have tried using beauty products and hop to another, then hop to another. This is because, we cannot find satisfaction on the products we are using. I remember the first time I used commercialized beauty products. I was 14 years old and started to feel like, I need to make myself pretty and more presentable to others. So I bought a beauty product and it is the one who introduced me to pimples!! PIMPLES!!! Urgh!

Many of us are suffering from skin sensitivity caused by commercialized beauty products. But the ironic thing is that, we still keep on looking for other products only to find out that our skin is getting worse! Then why don’t you throw those products and go for the more economical way and chemical-free beautifying techniques? Here are some beauty recipes I would love to share:

Hair - Many people struggle with dry, hard to manage hair. It may result from too much washing, a dry environment, inadequate diet, harsh chemicals such as hair straightening, or by hot styling products such as heat iron or blow dryer. The good news is that some beauty recipes can help restore or re-hydrate your hair leaving it softer and shinier than ever.

1. Honey – Mix one tablespoon of honey and any type of oil (olive oil, corn oil, etc). Distribute mixture evenly all over hair.

2. Mayonnaise – Coat dry hair with mayonnais. Once finished, cover with a plastic shower cap and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Wash your hair thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner to wash off the smell.

3. Olive Oil - Apply olive oil all over your hair. Cover with a plastic bag and let it stay for 20 mintues. For extra conditioning, take a warm shower while waiting. The heat will help the oil work to its maximum potential.

Face – Everyone experience sensitive or dry skin on their face at one time or another. Diet, travelling, change of climate and skin care all affect our skin. By making a few changes in routine, skin can grealty be benefited. Learn this simple techniques and put your best face forward.

1. Egg – Press half a lemon and mix with egg white. Put it evenly on face. Do it once a week to moisturize, whiten, and soften your face.

2. Milk Mask – Moist some cotton wool with milk and rub it gently on face. Milk is a good face cleanser and can even use to take off make ups.

3. Avocado - Avocado is a naturally affluent moisturizer. Mush the meat of the avocado into a creamy texture. Massage into the face and neck. Leave on for 15 minutes and gently wash off.

Body – It is important to exfoliate our body to keep our skin looking and feeling soft, hydrated, and healthy. Body spas can be expensive but let me share you some ways to make your own body srub at home.

1. Sugar, salt, and olive oil – Mix sugar, salt and some olive oil and apply to wet skin. Olive oil is kinda hard to wash off but it surely makes your skin moisturized and soft.

2. Milk and salt – Mix fresh milk or a can of evap milk and iodize salt. Srub it all over body and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Do this once a week.

3. Coffee grounds, sugar, and massage oil – Creating coffee scrub is easy, beneficial and most of all, cheap! Not to mention that coffee has added benefits for your skin and body that many body scrubs do not provide. Mix three ingredients. Rub it to wet skin with circular motions. It helps to eliminate cellulite and varicous veins.

HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT

.

The common problem of most of the ladies and also men is how to lose their weight. People love to eat and some make this as their stress reliever. Weight lose does not have to take forever. With some self control, discipline, hard work, and eagerness you can lose weigh fast.

1. Keep track of your measurements. Doing this will give you more motivation to lose weight fast. Measure your waist, hips, thighs and arms with a tape measure and set a realistic goal. And don’t forget to weigh yourself every morning before you eat. Make a list and update it everyday.

2. Change your diet – NOW! Loosing weight means lots of self control. Remember that you cannot eat junk foods such as chips, burgers, fries, pizza, etc, if you really want to achieve your goal. You should eat small meals every 2 ½ hours and not to go more than six hours without eating (except when you are sleeping of course). Each meal should have a source of protein and carbs. Yes! You need carbs to add energy to your body. But not carbs from rice or breads, but from dark green veggies such as broccoli, dark leafy lettuce, and spinach. It might sound boring but it’s better than to see yourself overweight.

3. Have 8,000 steps a day. If you aren't moving your body you aren't going to lose weight fast, or at all. It will not only help you lose weight but it is very helpful for your heart and brain health. You might also consider buying pedometers that tells how many calories you have lost. They aren’t 100% accurate of course, but they get pretty close.

4. Get your sleep. I know all of us are busy and have things going on, but don’t forget that your body needs enough sleep every night. The average adult needs at least 7-8 hours of sleep. When your body is working, it needs more time to repair, which means you need more time to sleep. On how to have a good night sleep, visit this: HOW TO HAVE A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP

5. Drink plenty… of water! Alcoholic drinks are not counted. Sodas and coffee too! Juices contain sugar and calories as well. You should drink eight glasses a day. If you are at work, you should have a big glass or a pitcher beside you, so you won’t get lazy taking water everytime.

6. Exercise! Do that sit ups, squats, calf raises, etc. This step is important and you cannot skip! It will help you sweat (which is good), and will help you lose fat.

IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP IN DANGER?

.

There were times when all we can do is run to your friends and complain about your boyfriend / girlfriend. And all we can hear from them is “Things will get better” or “Maybe you just need time apart”. Then you will go home without satisfying answer in mind. It is really hard to see the signs if your relationship is in trouble. And it is not enough to wait if things will really get better. You have to start analyzing and observing your relationship to see any signs of danger. If you don’t know how to, start checking if you ever felt any of the following:

  • You no longer happy with your relationship, in fact, you feel you are always angry, sad, or depress because of your situation.
  • You feel that your trust to your partner is fading or is completely vanished.
  • Both of you have stopped talking about your problems just because you don’t want to start fighting.
  • You start lying to your partner or you feel he/she is lying to you.
  • You lost your self-confidence because of your relationship with your significant other.
  • You’ve been complaining to others about your situation with your partner.

If you agreed to most or all of these, then you need a repair! It might be hard to save a relationship, but if you really love your partner, you won’t regret if you’ll try. Talk to your partner. Try to bring back the care and the passion that you had before. Put additional effort to your relationship. Start dating again! Take the necessary steps to save it and correct the mistakes you’ve both done to your relationship.

SURVIVING A LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP

.

It is hard to make a proximal relationship work, but it is far more difficult for a long distance relationship. All of us know that long distance relationship needs extra effort. Many people believe that this kind of relationship doesn’t work. However, successful long distance relationships can and do exist. It will survive as long as both of you are willing to work it out.
Here are a few simple things you need to consider to make sure you hold on to the man or woman of your dreams.

1. Open your communication. In every long distance relationship, communication is very important. Give each other a call everyday. Or send SMS. Nowadays, there are lots of ways to open up your communication. Use instant messenger program and purchase a webcam for that visual connection. But remember that email and instant messengers can increase the possibility of misunderstanding. Write love letters. Send ecards in every occasion or even without occasions just to let them know you’re thinking of them.

2. Do things together. In a long distance relationship, interaction over phone can be boring in the long run. Thinking of other ways to interact is necessary. You can watch movie together. Pick your fave movies and watch online. You can even buy popcorn so you can feel your watching together on a movie house. You can use this link search and watch movie online: http://www.watch-movies-online.tv/

3. Talk about your future together. If you want to live together, discuss on how you can get to that point. Have goals. Have definite time as to when do you want to be with your partner. It will then help you to prove that your relationship is going somewhere.

4. See each other often. A relationship cannot survive with just phone calls or instant messenger. You have to see your partner in person. Whenever your budget permits or whenever you have a chance, grab it!

5. Be positive. This is the first rule of my boyfriend. Always be positive. Don’t look at the negative aspects of your relationship. Yes, it is hard not seeing your partner but it is not bad at all. You can have time to do your personal things while your partner is away. And you can even use the time that you’re away to beautify yourself. Some couples break up to "find themselves", but in a long distance relationship you both have enough space to do your own things and still have a connection.

6. Give them personal thing of yours so when they miss you, they are able to hold on to something that once belonged to you. This will give happiness, comfort, and the feeling of being with you.

7. Avoid jealousy. Jealousy will destroy trust and the foundation of all good relationships. This is the easiest way to ruin every perfect relationship. This can make you nagger, and demanding of his time. Remember that every person has the right to have social life. Being overly suspicious is unhealthy for you, your partner, and your relationship.

Relationship is a two-way street. Both of you should be willing to take the risk. You should both have the determination to make it work. You've decided to be in that situation, so you better do anything to make it work. Try to make every possible effort from your side. It's commitment that is most important as love may fade away with time, but it's your positive attitude that will keep it alive.

BINAGOONGANG BABOY WITH GREEN MANGO

.

My officemates have been cooking dishes everyday and they are complaining how tiring it is when they got home and still, they need to cook for themselves. It’s really hard for working ladies to do that. I’m just so lucky that I’m still with my parents and all I need to do when I got home is change my clothes, sit and relax for a while in front of the TV and eat my dinner. Then I’ll wake up in the morning with breakfast ready on the table. But last night, my parents were out of town. So I have to cook for myself and my younger sister. Well, I know how to cook. Because when I was in the Philippines, I’ve been cooking for myself, my two cousins and my older brother. But its four years back and this is the time to practice again.

I thought Binagoongang Baboy (Pork with Shrimp Paste) would be easy. So I cooked it and made some changes. I add water to it so I could put some on my rice. I don’t like other versions of this dish because they cook it too salty and too dry. I’m just happy because my lil sis ate a lot and the first thing she said when she took her first bite is “Wow!! Delicious!”. Okay, enough of that, here’s the photo of my dish. I should have taken the photo with better camera pixel and I wish to have better photography skills. And I really didn't realize that I will be making this topic here in my blog so I did not put extra effort on the appearance of the dish. Sad about that… Please bear with me. At least I know now what to do next time.

Here’s how I do it:

Ingredients:
½ kilo       Pork with fat (cut into chunk cubes)
               Cooking oil
1 head      Garlic (minced)
1 big         Onion (minced)
2 medium   Tomatoes (diced)
                Bagoong Alamang (Shrimp paste)
                Brown Sugar
1 ½ cup     Water
1 piece      Lemon
1 piece      Chili pepper (minced)
                Ground pepper to taste
                Green Mango (cut into strips)

Procedure:
In a casserole, boil pork and lower fire until water evaporates and pork oil starts to come out. When pork is lightly crispy, put in on the side, add a bit of oil and sauté garlic, onion and tomatoes in the fat and mix pork once more. Add in the bagoong (shrimp paste) and cook while stirring for 5 minutes. Pour in the water and stir well. Add more water if needed. Add in some sugar, pepper to taste, lemon, chili peppers and let simmer for 10 minutes or just until cooked. Garnish green mango strips on top. Serve hot.

COOK'S TIPS

  • I add the juice of one lemon and a little sugar, to help to mellow out the strong flavor and cut down the salty taste.
  • Adjust the amount of shrimp paste to your taste. If you like it more salty, add just a little bit. Remember, you can always add more, but once it gets too salty, your dish is ruined...so be careful.

WAITING FOR MR. RIGHT

.

"Having been committed to love someone, means losing the opportunity of having others to love you. So, be sure the person you are committed to deserves your love and worthy of your sacrifices…"

That is the quoted theory from one of my best pals. She’s been asking and wondering why she doesn’t have a boyfriend. And she even suggested me to write this topic here in my blog. But don’t get me wrong – she is so pretty, so sexy (wink), and so nice! – she has had tons of suitors. I’m neither a love guru nor a relationship doctor. I’m just one of those very observant and the kind of person wherein experience is my teacher. I’m not telling you that I have lots and lots of experiences. But I’m learning from the experiences of others.

She once asked me: "How can I have a boyfriend? How can I find Mr. Right?". You want a boyfriend? First find out why you don’t still have one! There are plenty of things that can scare man away.

Okay, first of all, this is not all about my friend. She just gave me an idea on what to write but I am enumerating things in general. Let me close my eyes and think of all the girls in general. I’ll include here the complaints that I’ve been hearing from my guy friends. Okay, here it goes:

1. You Talk About Your Ex
For some girls, it is so hard to let go of their exes. But even though how much you loved your ex, or how disastrous your past relationship was, believe me when I say that he doesn’t want to hear about it. Talking about your ex will not help your rebound and will only keep your new guy wondering whether you’re actually ready to make a new commitment.

2. You Hook Up… A Lot
The idea of "no strings attached" and having different guy each week may be exciting for other girls, but that's exactly where you'll end up—unattached. You might think this is the easiest and quickest way to getting a guy but more often than not it just send the wrong signal.

3. You are the high-maintenance girl
When they look at you, they see a model of the designer wear. From your Louis Vuitton top to your Armani shoes. Even though you're glam to look at, many regular men prefer leaving it at just that. He might think that his entire paycheck will be going up in smoke just to keep you in the style you are accustomed to.

4. The gold digger
In my language, it is known as the "bilmoko" girls. Some girls are trying to look at the net worth of a guy before getting to know him as a person. Some are trying to find this out by asking a guy to date her on a fancy restaurant and asking him to buy some expensive stuff. This will lead a man to run away from you as fast as he can. This is the easiest way of ensuring that you'll never gonna see him again.

5. You have very high standards
I’m not telling you to look for just anybody on the street. I admit that all girls have "ideal guys" - including me. You can have your ideals but not to the point that you are looking for a "romance pocket book guy" or the perfect man. Remember – nobody’s perfect! You have to love them despite their imperfections.

If one or several of these characterizations accurately describes you, it’s not too late to take a good, hard look at yourself and plan how you can make some subtle (or drastic as the case may be) improvements for the better!

It is not tough to find Mr. Right provided you have realistic expectations towards life. The only key to find him is to redesign your outlook towards Mr. Right. Don’t put too much emphasis on the outer beauty or materialistic things because that will never be everlasting, the only thing which will last is the compatibility!

BEAUTY RECIPES

.

Hi Venus! Ladies like us have different insights – far more different from guys out there. Sometimes we spend days, months, and even years just to seek answers to our simple questions. And it takes a lifetime for men to understand women and vice versa. That’s why I want to spend my excess time writing this blog. So we can talk just anything under the sun – hobbies, beauty secrets, recipes, love issues, destinations – just everything! To start with, here’s the topic that most women will love: Beauty Secrets!

Most ladies especially working women missed the fun of going to salons. But being busy is not a reason to stop pampering yourself. You have to have at least a day – or spend one of your weekends – for yourself. Only for yourself! Have a “lazy day”. You can sleep as long as you want. Wake up at 11pm, eat your lunch, have a long nice bath, and spend your day to spoil yourself from head-to-toe! Don’t think of anybody or anything. It’s not a sin to be selfish just for a day!

Here are some beauty recipes, which will really help you to keep your glow during your busiest days:

Hair:
Have a hair treatment every week! You can buy cheap Hot Oils from the supermarkets near you. Just wet your hair, massage some hot oils onto your hair from root to tip. Put a shower cap and leave it for 20 mins. If you don’t have time to buy hot oil, you can rather use conditioner.

Face:
You can use yogurt as a cleanser for sensitive skin. Cleanse and exfoliate in one step by mixing 1 tsp. baking soda with 1 tsp. plain yogurt.  Apply mixture and leave on for 2 minutes, then gently massage into skin.  Rinse well with warm water.  (Note:  This combination gently cleans pores, removes dead cells and softens dry, sensitive skin without irritation.)

Body:
A healthy skin is easy to achieve just by exfoliating once a week. You can use St. Ives body Scrub or Baking Soda and Oatmeal (for dry skin) or alternately every week. Mix together two tablespoons of baking soda, and four tablespoons of dry oatmeal. Add a few drops of water at a time while thoroughly mixing the baking soda and the oatmeal until a paste is created. Gently apply to skin and let it set for a moment. Rub gently and rinse off. For the feet, you could apply it to a brush, but direct contact on the skin works best.

Feet:
Many people said that lots of guys love beautiful feet! So better have it!

1. Soak feet in warm soapy water to which hydrogen peroxide is added to loosen hidden dirt and soften rough skin. Allow the feet to remain in water for 7-10 minutes.

2. Carry out brush cleaning of the toe-nails while scrubbing them well.

3. Remove hard skin of both feet with a foot scraper.

4. Remove both feet from water and dry them thoroughly.

5. Apply cream on the cuticles of the nails to make them soft.

6. Remove cuticle skin with the combined use of cuticle pusher, remove and clipper.

7. Feet and leg massage is done with nourishing cream to avail maximum benefit of the pedicure treatment.

8. Wipe feet with a hot towel to remove extra cream and make sure that you don't slip after the pedicure.

9. Buff nails with the buffer while giving downward strokes to make the toe-nails glossy and smooth.

10. Before beginning the nail-polish procedure, keep rolled cotton pieces between the toes and apply nail-polish on the toes in the same way as in a manicure.

Hands:
Here are some ideas to have hands which all guys will love to hold!

1. Wash hands thoroughly with warm water, then, using a coarse washcloth, rub briskly. While skin is slightly damp, apply a mixture of one teaspoon honey and one teaspoon olive oil. Place hands in small plastic bags, then in a pair of cotton gloves for thirty minutes. The heat helps the treatment penetrate.

2. Warm a cup of milk in the microwave for thirty seconds (or until warm, but comfortable to the touch). Soak your hands for five minutes to strengthen nails and hydrate skin. Not only is milk loaded with lactic acid, a natural alpha hydroxyl acid that gently exfoliates dead skin, but its high calcium content will strengthen fragile nails.

Teeth Whitening:
Are you longing for those perfect white teeth? Then do these simple steps to help you whiten your teeth in no time:

Take a teaspoon of lemon juice and a tsp of salt. Make a paste. Apply this on the yellowish tint.

You don’t need to spend much to be glam and beautiful! You just have to be patient to get what you want. And remember – No guts, no glory. Just be yourself, be confident, and smile… and let your inner beauty shine!
